How things are in other Mystery Films Setting/Time: In mystery films, there is a wide variety of settings for openings scenes to have. Most of the time people make opening scenes in dark empty or deserted places but that's not always the case. Sometimes the opening scene in this genre may use a flashback, a fash forward, or tell a story about what happened. All these can take place in different settings like cars, a house, and even a mall. In mysteries there is not a set group of settings where opening scenes take place, it depends on the movie that is being made.
